Lakou Lokal was founded in 2024 as a compassionate response to the needs of Haitian immigrant families seeking culturally respectful resources. We recognized how difficult it can be for many families to maintain deep connection to their roots while adapting to life in a new country.
What is a 'Lakou'?
In Haiti, the lakou is the traditional family compound and communal gathering courtyard—a place where families live together, share food and stories, raise children collectively, and support one another in times of challenge and celebration.
We have reimagined this sacred tradition for the digital age as a virtual community center. From a simple vision, Lakou Lokal has grown into a hub providing psychoeducation, parenting support, and cultural connection across the diaspora.
